Reduce the Density of Allergens

Reduce the Density of Allergens - Keep your doors and windows closed. While the nice weather invites most people to open the windows, this also invites the pollen indoors. Keeping the windows closed and using air conditioning minimizes the pollen and also reduces dust mites because the humidity has been reduced.

Vacuum your carpets at least once or twice a week using a vacuum with a HEPA filter to reduce the dust the vacuum cleaner puts into the air.

Care for a Labrador Retriever's Skin

Care for a Labrador Retriever's Skin - Pet your Labrador retriever daily. This is a great way to bond with your dog and the best way to become accustomed to your Labrador's typical coat and skin condition.

Use a rubber or natural-bristle brush to remove dirt and loose hair from your Labrador's skin. You can brush her daily or weekly.

Wear Breathing Masks at Night for Allergies

Wear Breathing Masks at Night for Allergies - Choose a mask that feels comfortable when sitting up and lying down. Not all allergy masks are designed for long-term wear, and it may be necessary to try a few different types of masks before you find the one that is the best fit for you.

Allergy masks designed for daytime wear sometimes contain padding to make them more comfortable, but this padding can be uncomfortable for allergy sufferers when sleeping. If you have allergies or sensitivities to certain types of material, such as cotton, choose an allergy sleep mask made of hypoallergenic materials.

Get Rid of a Stuffy Nose and Congestion

Get Rid of a Stuffy Nose and Congestion - Open your nasal passages. Take an over-the-counter decongestant to clear a stuffy nose and relieve congestion quickly. Common cold and sinus medications include a decongestant along with a pain reliever. Take as directed.

Fight off allergies. Combat allergies from outdoor and indoor irritants by taking an antihistamine. This type of medication counteracts the effects of histamine, which produce symptoms such as the coughing, congestion, wheezing and sneezing associated with allergies. Controlling allergies helps reduce the production of mucus, which reduces congestion in the nasal passage.

Care for Wheaten Terriers

Care for Wheaten Terriers - Pay special attention to grooming. Unless you are a professional groomer, expect your soft-coated Wheaten terrier to visit one every 4 to 6 weeks. Wheaten terriers don't have fur like most dogs, they have hair, and like yours or mine, it grows all the time and can get unruly if not combed daily. If you don't pay attention to the combing between grooming appointments, your Wheaten's hair will mat and tangle, making your dog miserable and your groomer annoyed.

Apply flea preventative treatment every 30 days. Wheaten terriers are prone to flea allergies, which create painful skin inflammations that can only be successfully treated by a veterinarian. Flea allergies can be caused by just one flea bite.

Stop Sneezing & Runny Nose

Stop Sneezing & Runny Nose - Determine whether you are suffering from an allergy or a cold. If it is an allergy, your eyes often feel itchy. Colds can come with coughs and periods of nasal congestion. If it is allergy season and you are fairly sure this is the cause, avoid the outdoors as much as possible. Keeping your windows closed and staying indoors can help get rid of your sneezing and runny nose.

Clean out your nasal passages with a netty pot. Fill the netty pot with warm salt water. Place the tip of the pot in your left nostril, and lean your head to the side. Tip the pot so that the water runs through your left nasal passage and out your right nasal passage. Repeat this with the right nostril. This will temporarily eliminate your symptoms.

Steam Clean Carpet With Allergies

Steam Clean Carpet With Allergies - Vacuum the carpet to remove any loose dirt.

Remove the water container from the steam cleaner. Fill the container with warm water and two capfuls of a cleaning solution. Cleaning liquids can be found at most hardware stores.

Tell If You Have a Sinus Infection

Tell If You Have a Sinus Infection - Keep a calendar and mark off each day you've been ill. Since the common cold can last from one to two weeks, you can determine whether your ailment has lasted longer than what is normal for a cold or flu. You will also be able to give your doctor an accurate time frame of your illness when you go to visit her. If you've been sick for longer than a week or two, it's time to examine the symptoms you're experiencing.

Identify the symptoms of sinus infection. The most common symptoms are facial pain, pain in the teeth, sore throat, a persistent cough which may become worse at night, and fever. Take your temperature regularly using a thermometer, and make note of any fever temperatures (those above 98.6 degrees F). Using your notepad, document your temperatures when you take them, and also keep a list of the symptoms that you are experiencing.

Apply Advantage Every Two Weeks for a Flea Allergy

Apply Advantage Every Two Weeks for a Flea Allergy - Bathe your pet. (If your pet is a cat and bathing is difficult you can skip this step.)

Comb through the pet's fur with a flea comb. Dip the teeth of the comb in petroleum jelly so that the fleas will stick to the bristles.

Wash Your Cat for Dander for Allergy

Wash Your Cat for Dander for Allergy - Buy a dander shampoo for pets. Using a dander shampoo can help reduce dander production. According to Achoo Allergy, weekly washing of your pet will reduce causes of allergies by nearly 84 percent.

Use a dander spray if you pet dislikes baths. Thoroughly saturate your pet's fur with the spray. Take a towel, and wipe off the spray from your pet's coat. Dander sprays can be used once a week for dander control.
