Prevent Facial Hair Dye Allergies - Wash an area on the inside bend of your elbow that is about the size of a quarter. Pat the area dry.
Unscrew the caps from both bottles in your hair dye kit and pour small, equal amounts of both substances in the mixing tray that came with the kit. Use the brush that came in your kit to mix the two substances together.
Recap both bottles and apply the mixture to the test area with a cotton ball, cotton swab or tissue. Allow it to dry.
Do not wash or cover the test area for 48 hours. Check the test area over the next 48 hours for signs of a reaction. If you see redness, rash or feel burning or itching during the testing, be sure to immediately wash the test area and do not use the hair dye you tested. If no reaction occurs after 48 hours, it's safe to use the hair dye on your facial hair.
Many men use hair dye to cover gray hair in their beards or mustaches. If you are new to dying your hair, you will need to do a patch test to see if you are allergic to the dye. This process is easy and should be done to avoid an allergic reaction. Symptoms of a reaction can be anything from sneezing, coughing, itching and redness to more severe symptoms such as hives, swelling or trouble breathing.
