Live with a Cat When You're Allergic - Make your bedroom a no cat zone. You're not going to be happy if you can't sleep because of sniffles, stuffiness and itching eyes. The cats can have the rest of the house but the bedroom should be your sanctuary.
Vacuum - A LOT! Keeping on top of the cat hair will go long way toward keeping the allergy symptoms at bay. One of the easiest ways to keep your floors clean is to invest in a robot vacuum cleaner like a Roomba. You can start it when you leave for work every day and it will wander the house vacuuming up all the dust and cat hair. If you live in a large or multi-level house you may need to get more than one. You will need to vacuum the furniture at least weekly but if you're sacrificing for your significant other's cat, ask him or her to vacuum the furniture for you.
Give your cat a weekly damp bath with a product to remove the antigens that cause allergies. To do this you dampen a cloth with an allergy product such as Allerpet/C and wipe the cat's fur all over. Fluff dry him with a bath towel and he'll be good for a week. Make the drying a cuddle session with the cat and he'll love it.
Wash your hands after petting the cat. Be very careful to avoid rubbing your eyes after petting the cat. If you have problems with itching eyes, your optometrist can prescribe eye drops that will relieve the itching instantly.
Many of us are allergic to cats but want to live with them anyway. It may be our love of cats or perhaps our significant other has a cat and you know you'll lose if you say "him or me". You can seek medical care and get shots - sometimes as frequently as twice a week. But if you want a non-medical solution there are steps you can take.
